San Francisco – Part 2

So I sadly had to leave San Francisco for the great trek back to Brussels. First from Walla Walla to Seattle, then Seattle to San Francisco. Overnight in a particularly lovely (note sarcasm) airport hotel before a bright and early flight to New York and then the red eye to Brussels. A girl had to rest up before New Year’s in Barcelona (stay tuned for upcoming photos of that trip).

Some pictures below, lovelies, of my last day in San Francisco:

My brother Brian – who, incidentally, now trumps me in terms of who lives in a cooler city – regularly cares for a neighbor’s 9 month old water dog, Charlie. Charlie appears particularly well-behaved here.

We then strolled around some neighborhoods where I embarrassed Brian (a sisterly duty) by constantly talking about how much I loved the architecture.

A highlight of the San Francisco trip was the Bi-Rite market.

Everything came in to-die-for packing and was originally presented with hand-written description cards. I am not sure what Napa Cakes are really, but probably would have bought one on presentation alone.

My brother, a former cheesemonger at De Laurenti’s in Seattle (another amazing West Coast deli and grocery), was drooling over the cheese display at Bi-Rite. Any rumours going around Europe that Americans cannot find good and proper cheese counters are false.

For lunch, I settled on their Rancho Gordo Heirloom Bean Salad with Winter Squash, Roasted Fennel and Coriander Vinaigrette (BEST. SALAD. EVER.) while my brother shoveled the famous “Fidel” into his mouth. “The Fidel” is a sandwich-lovers dream in the form of slow-roasted Heritage Pork Shoulder, coleslaw, pickled Jalepeno peppers, dijon mustard and aioli on an Acme roll.

We ate our feast on a tree stump in Dolores Park taking in the view of the city. One really could have a worse time…

We stopped at the coast to take in the sunset:

Some sibling silliness ensued:

And then we drove back home to the Presidio with this view and the sunset following us:

Thanks, Bri + San Francisco, for showing a girl a good time. Next time I will stay for a little bit longer!

I really like San Francisco – almost moved there 5 years ago. Looks like it was a great time!
