A taste of Australia in London (Granger & Co.)

Headed to London next week for Queenly festivities and having a good think about what to do while we are there.

Came across Bill Granger’s restaurant while browsing Conde Nast’s Traveller’s list of 2012 Innovation & Design Winners and think we have to try it!

The restaurant looks casual, but with a bit of designer’s edge to it, serving meals all day in the charming  (if ever increasingly posh)  neighborhood of Notting Hill.

I love restaurants that have atmosphere as skillfully thought through out as the food.  Granger & Co.’s transition from a bright and airy breakfast room to a dimmer, more intimate dinner space is delightful.

Start it all off with a cocktail and some spiced cashews while you try to decide on the menu. (I’m going for “the bramble”, a mixture of gin, lemon and blackberry liqueur.)

The menu has an Australian-Asian twist to it and several dishes include lime and avocado (two ingredients of obsession). All of the below sound delicious:

– Crisp salmon salad with coconut caramel dressing

– Crisp duck with plum sauce & clementines

– Pure beef burger with beetroot, tomato relish & our courgette pickles (you can add gruyere or gorgonzola dolce)

Take a look at the menu here.

If you don’t have room for a full dessert, you can order some peanut brittle which is simply the sweetest touch to end on.

  1. Oh You have to go have a nice breakfast in Albion! This is my favourite place in London!
http://www.albioncaff.co.uk/caff/ It has this distinguished yet relaxed vibe. All bread is made there (it’s also a bakery). Lots of breakfast options. Really good and reasonably priced for the quality of it.
